Plantar Fasciitis (overview)

From London Foot Pain Clinic - Wimbledon

Heel pain underneath the foot or Plantar Fasciitis was previously something mature adults suffered with. However, due to the craze of forefoot running (toe - running), we see an explosion of heel pain in the young to younger adults.

This condition, known as Plantar Fasciitis (inflammation of the fascia) is genuinely spanning age groups and different sexes.

The Low Down On Plantar Fascia Pain

The band known as the Plantar Fascia starts at the heel and fans out to the toes. The band gets repetitive yanking from forefoot running/ wearing heels (excessive time on toes) or flattening arches

These poor foot functions lead to inflammation. The overstressed and now inflamed band has an instinctive reaction to thicken (this happens typically overnight).

flattening arches and plantar fasciitis

The thickened band/ plantar fascia gets asked to bend and flex within the first steps of morning - and the body feels confused so gives you pain.

The best treatment for Plantar Fasciitis is to stop or halt the thickening of the plantar fascia; we use a sound wave to drum the thickening and soften it.

This is called Extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT). For years, we used a radial version of ESWT (r-ESWT), but while okay, the radial version was sore for the clients, and the outcomes weren't as clean. Therefore, the London Foot Paqin Clinic in Wimbledon has invested in a Focused ESWT, a painless version with much better outcomes.

However, while you wait for your F-ESWT plantar fasciitis treatment, we encourage potential clients or sufferers to find the root causes of their plantar stress.

This is essential; it could be old shoes, a change in gait pattern, weakened bones, or aches. Your practitioner should help you figure this out if you have consulted for foot pain at the Wimbledon clinic or a gold-standard treatment consult for Focused shock wave therapy on your plantar fasciitis.
